Michael “Doc” Ryan
I have had an interest in community radio since about 1986, first in Bunbury WA as a volunteer, doing record library and some production work.
Then in the early 90s with BAYFM in South East Queensland I presented a Sunday morning program, with rock music and interviews with local and visiting musicians and performers.
I came to Alice Springs in 2006 and joined 8CCC Community Radio in early 2007. I did the Drive program for a few months and then settled into the Rock Classics Show every Wednesday night. By 2008 I was helping out when other presenters had technical problems, and the Board of Management asked me to fill in when the Manager’s position was vacant over Christmas. I applied for the Manger’s job, and worked full-time as Manager till July. It’s been a huge learning curve! Now I work part-time as Station technical Coordinator.
I love the freedom of community radio. I love creating playlists that no commercial station can go near, music that’s not determined by a program manager.
