I started my involvement with community radio over 20 years ago. In the 1980s I worked in Adelaide with 5CCC, which was to become 3D Radio. I was a volunteer presenter on the Environment Show – it was a great way to find out what’s going on in the world.
In 2004, in Alice Springs, I joined 8CCC’s Vashti’s Voice team, and got great training and support from Liz, Megg and other volunteers. Now I’m on the Board of Management – volunteered because I believe in 8CCC and I love the diversity of voices and programs on community radio.
I’ve been involved in community organisations as volunteer coordinator, employee and Board member in Alice Springs and Adelaide. In Alice Springs I’ve been on the Board of Management of Youth Accommodation and Support Services (ASYASS) as well as currently on 8CCC Community Radio Inc.
8CCC is a great community radio station, and I encourage people to get involved in any way that suits you – program production, music cataloging, promotion, fund-raising, community events – there’s plenty of scope.
